The typical line has been that the convoys were engaged in “classic tank battles,” as if to suggest that Iraqi troops tried to fight back or even had a chance of fighting back. The truth is that it was simply a one-sided massacre of tens of thousands of people who had no ability to fight back or defend themselves.

There are also indications that some of those bombed during the withdrawal were Palestinians and Iraqi civilians. According to Time magazine of March 18, 1991, not just military vehicles, but cars, buses and trucks were also hit.

Shooting in a sheep pen

The above photo of wreckage on the infamous “Highway of Death” was taken in March 1991, in southern Iraq. The road went from Kuwait to Safwan, at the Iraqi border, and on to Basra.

Tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians were fleeing desperately, many in civilian vehicles. They were obviously no military threat to anyone. And yet American forces gleefully massacred them all, joking that it was as easy as “shooting in a sheep pen.”

On many occasions Iraqi soldiers tried to surrender to American forces. It didn’t make any difference. U.S. Air Force and Navy pilots were under orders to mass-murder every last human being in cold blood.

Highway of Death

One of the most graphic and heinous crimes of the Gulf War occurred on the highway between Mutlaa, Kuwait and Basra, Iraq, also known as "The Highway of Death."

As the U.S. began its land assault, Iraq announced that it would comply with U.N. resolution 660 and withdraw from Kuwait.

Iraqi soldiers as well as Iraqi, Palestinian, Jordanian and other civilians piled into whatever vehicles they could commandeer, including a fire truck, and fled north towards Iraq. U.S. planes disabled vehicles at both ends of the convoy, creating a 7-mile long traffic jam.

U.S. planes then began to bomb and strafe the entire line of some 2,000 vehicles for hours, killing tens of thousands of helpless soldiers and civilians while encountering no resistance and receiving no losses to themselves.

U.S. planes immobilized the convoy by disabling vehicles at its front and rear, then bombing and strafing the resulting traffic jam for hours.

More than 2,000 vehicles and tens of thousands of charred and dismembered bodies littered the sixty miles of highway.

Outlawed Weapons Massacre

The clear rapid incineration of the human being [pictured above] suggests the use of napalm, phosphorus, or other incendiary bombs. These are anti-personnel weapons outlawed under the 1977 Geneva Protocols.

This massive attack occurred after Saddam Hussein announced a complete troop withdrawal from Kuwait in compliance with UN Resolution 660.

Such a massacre of withdrawing Iraqi soldiers violates the Geneva Convention of 1949, common article 3, which outlaws the killing of soldiers who “are out of combat”.

There are, in addition, strong indications that many of those killed were Palestinian and Kuwaiti civilians trying to escape the impending siege of Kuwait City and the return of Kuwaiti armed forces.

No attempt was made by U.S. military command to distinguish between military personnel and civilians on the “highway of death”. The whole intent of international law with regard to war is to prevent just this sort of indiscriminate and excessive use of force.

Now as we draw the comparison with American and coalition forces in that first war we find the following: the US had more than 500,000 troops in the War while non-US forces added up to an additional 160,000.

US wounded tallied 467, British 24, French 2. US casualties were 148 battle deaths and 145 nonbattle deaths and allied Arab casualties numbered 39. That means that the US suffered 293 deaths to Iraq's 100,000, not counting the 35,000 civilians killed or 460 times as many Iraqi dead as US forces....

One can stare at the 24-hour cable news networks from sunup to sundown and get no sense of the carnage in towns and cities from Baghdad, to Fallujah, to Ramadi, to Hilla in the south and Tal Afar in the north that is left in the wake of US rockets, bombs, tank shells and sniper rounds.

The evening news reports of the major networks provide at most a fleeting image of the death and destruction, inevitably hedged with absurd avowals from the US military that “precision” attacks were carried out against “terrorist” and “anti-Iraqi” targets.

In reality, the US media's disinformation operation is among the most striking and significant expressions of the collapse of American democracy.

USA Immunity From War Crime Prosecution

George W. Bush, upon taking office in 2001, immediately began a systematic withdrawal from major international treaties to which the US was a signatory. As part of that policy, on May 7th, 2002 Donald Rumsfeld informed the Secretary General of the UN that the US was officially withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Months before, the US had already established that the court would grant the United States immunity from the court for US citizens suspected of atrocities. Under guidelines pushed through despite EU concerns, US soldiers serving overseas would be immune from prosecution in the court, while politicians and US officials, including CIA operatives, could claim diplomatic immunity.

That was not enough. Rumsfeld made it very clear that the United States would reject any attempt by the court or state parties to the treaty to assert any jurisdiction over American citizens.

In short, Americans were accountable to no one for any atrocities they might commit anywhere in the world.

Ever since the end of Desert Storm, when the Pentagon unloaded 350 tons of depleted uranium, American officials have been well aware of the health hazards of the residue that is collected from the processing of nuclear fuel.

When President [sic] Bush and the Pentagon authorized the use of depleted uranium for the shock-and-awe campaign against Iraq in March 1991, the Bush administration not only committed a war crime against the people of Iraq, it demonstrated reckless disregard for the health and safety of American troops.

Article 23 of the Geneva Convention IV is clear and unambiguous: "It is forbidden to employ poison or poisoned weapons, to kill treacherously individuals belonging to the hostile nation or army, to employ arms, projectiles or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering." The Geneva Protocol of 1925 explicitly prohibits "asphyxiating, poisonous or other gasses, and all analogous liquids, materials or devices."

They Just Report What Sounds Good

In October, the British medical journal Lancet estimated 98,000 Iraqis had died as a result of the invasion and occupation. The study was based on interviews with people in 988 households with 7,868 residents randomly selected across Iraq. Forty-six percent of the violent deaths were of children younger than 15, and 7 percent were women, the researchers reported. The findings were dismissed by the U.S and British governments as inaccurate.

The estimates of ordinary Iraqis killed -- by insurgents, U.S. troops and Iraqi criminals -- vary greatly, from as low as 6,000 up to nearly 100, 000, depending on the methodology used.

The U.S. military says it does not keep track of civilian deaths. "We don't do body counts," Gen. Tommy Franks, who commanded U.S. troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq, said in 2002.

In a book based on interviews before his execution, American Terrorist, McVeigh stated he decapitated an Iraqi soldier with cannon fire on his first day in the war, and celebrated.

But he said he later was shocked to be ordered to execute surrendering prisoners, and to see carnage on the road leaving Kuwait City after U.S. troops routed the Iraqi army.

The Washington Post says that senior officers with the U.S. Central Command in Riyad became worried that what they saw was a growing public perception that Iraqi forces were leaving Kuwait voluntarily, and that the U.S. pilots were bombing them mercilessly, which was the truth.

So the U.S. government, says the Post, played down the evidence that Iraqi troops were actually leaving Kuwait.

The original Skinhead subculture emerged in working class Britain during the 1960s as a 'memetic drift' from the Mod subculture. Integrating vibrant aspects of Jamaican Ska and Reggae music. Early Skinheads were different from the racialist stereotypes that dominate contemporary mainstream media coverage.

By the early 1970s, the skinhead subculture had significantly weakened partly due to police crackdowns. The movement was not revived until the end of the decade, in the midst of the punk explosion.

The British economy had fallen into its worst crisis since World War II and the country was beset by social problems. Meanwhile, the almost forgotten skinhead cult had returned to the scene, but in contrast to its original apolitical conception, some of the new skinheads had started to move toward the radical right.

The politicization of the skinheads was an apparent reaction to the growing unemployment rate among young, unskilled men. Some people started to blame the unemployment rate on the immigrants, who were said to be "stealing" jobs from native Britons. Furthermore, various extremist right-wing political groups capitalized on the potential inherent in the physical prowess and patriotic inclinations of the skinheads.

Ian Stuart Donaldson played a key role in the transformation of the skinheads from a subculture into an international political movement. In 1977, Donaldson established the rock band Screwdriver to ventilate his uniquely right-wing philosophy based on violence, survival, and rebellion.

Two years later, this talented musician set up the political group White Noise, which soon caught the attention of the British National Front. After just two albums, Screwdriver assumed a leading role in the creation of white power music -- a right-wing extremist and racist offshoot of the rock scene.

The wave of nationalistic feeling was accompanied by an increase in the number of racially motivated crimes committed by skinheads. The ultraright branch of the movement immediately became the focus of media attention and social condemnation.

Meanwhile, the apolitical skinheads distanced themselves from the xenophobic attitudes of the ultraright, eventually giving birth to a left-wing and decidedly anti-racist rock music movement right at the heart of the British music scene.

"Hard Mods" were the first British subculture to embrace Jamaican reggae and ska music as well as soul. The first enclaves of immigrants from the British colonies in the Caribbean established a group known as the Rude Boys, characterized by their clothing, slang, and especially disrespect for convention and authority.

These gangs fascinated the Mods, who saw the lifestyles of these immigrants as a possible way out of their own oppressive working-class conditions. Thus, two apparently irreconcilable culture groups, Jamaican immigrants and white working-class youths, gave birth to a subculture that exists to this day -- the skinheads.

These "Hard Mods" were the first British subculture to embrace Jamaican reggae and ska music as well as soul. The first enclaves of immigrants from the British colonies in the Caribbean established a group known as the Rude Boys, characterized by their clothing, slang, and especially disrespect for convention and authority.

These early skinheads, originally know as the Boot Boys, borrowed much from the external appearance of the Mods but were set apart by pride in their working-class origins, patriotism, and Puritanism. They distanced themselves from hippies, drugs, and intellectualism. Their favorite music was reggae and ska.

One of the most important characteristics of these early skins was their rejection of hippie values such as long hair as a symbol of peace and eroticism. Some commentators note that in its clothing, proletarian chauvinism, patriotism, and love of beer, boxing, and football, the skinhead subculture was an attempt to recreate the English working-class community.

The main Skinhead "organization" is Blood and Honour, a loose sort of structure founded in 1987 by Ian Stuart Donaldson - professionally (and hereinafter) "Ian Stuart" - a Skinhead musician who was killed in an automobile crash in Derbyshire late in 1993.

Stuart's band, Skrewdriver, has been for years the most popular Skinhead group in Britain and throughout the world. Under the name The Klansmen, the band has made records for the United States market - one of their songs was titled "Fetch the Rope." Stuart always preferred being called a Nazi rather than a "neo-Nazi."

He once told the London Evening Standard: "I admire everything Hitler did, apart from one thing - losing."

Displaced by the sociopolitical trauma of the late 1960s, including Hippies, Skinheads again came to prominence during the turbulent 1970s in Britain. During a time of high unemployment and growing economic stratification, many young people found a positive personal identity and surrogate tribe in the thriving subculture.

Skinheads adopted a myriad of forms, from Trads to Red & Anarchist Skins (RASH). They spawned new music genres, including Street-Punk, Two-Tone and Oi!

However, groups like National Action became notorious for violent street protests, and fear of Neo-Nazi Boneheads prompted strongly negative reactions from the general public. Racialist and White Power groups spread to the United States.

As a reaction to the racialist stereotype and divisive opposition politics, a grass-roots movement called Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice (SHARP) emerged during the late 1980s. SHARP argued that the racialists had fed members false history and used the subculture's aesthetics and personal identity for its own nefarious purposes.

In a splintering post-Cold War environment where the search for cultural identity is simultaneously more difficult and more dangerous than ever, Skinhead subculture uniquely probes the different forms and reasons why racialism and historical revisionism exist within society. They provide a haven for disenfranchised working class voices.

The Skinhead phenomenon had its birth in the United Kingdom, arising as a youth cult in the early 1970's, and Britain is still regarded as the fountainhead of the movement worldwide.

It was there that the Skinhead aspect and regalia developed - shaved heads, boots, tattoos - designed to symbolize tough, angry, rebellious working-class youths. (The steel-toed Doc Martens boots, de rigueur for Skins everywhere, are manufactured in Britain.)

Along with the style went fixed attitudes: an extreme nationalism, a brash male chauvinism, a glorification of brute violence. Before long, a large number of British Skinheads were also displaying hostility towards non-whites, Jews, foreigners and homosexuals. Filling out the format was "oi" music ("oi" is a Cockney greeting), which - for the racist Skins - meant the threatening sound of "white power."

Today Skinhead rock is one of the most popular recruiting tools used to attract young people to the American white power movement.

The Skinhead American Neo-Nazi Evolution

Tom Metzger was once considered one of the most powerful men in the white supremacists movement. Metzger started out as a leader in the John Birch Society, in California. Metzger was also a Christian Identity minister.

Christian Identity teaches that white people are the true Israelites, and that the Jews are the spawn of Satan. Metzger then joined the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which was led by David Duke, out of Metarie, Louisiana.

Metzger was a dynamic recruiter and quickly rose to the position of Grand Dragon (State Director) of California. He first gained national fame when he initiated the U.S. Border Patrol controversy in the 1970's. Metzger was fed up with the U.S. Government's failure to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border, in which thousands of illegal aliens where flooding the shores of America, taking jobs away from U.S. citizens.

Metzger decided that if the U.S. Government was not going to do anything about the situation, then he and the Klan would. Metzger announced that the K.K.K. would begin patrolling the border for illegal aliens, and brought David Duke to California, to kick off the campaign. This drew headlines all over the world, and angered Mexico.

The U.S. Government's answer to the problem, was not to patrol the border for illegal aliens but to patrol the border to arrest Klan members caught harassing anyone attempting to cross the border. This would backfire on the Government, because many Californians sympathized with Metzger's efforts because the public was outraged at the Government's refusal to control the illegal alien problem.

When David Duke arrived in California, Metzger met him at the airport, all prepared for business, when Duke took off his sunglasses, looked around and said to tom, "Hey Tom, where's all the women at? Fix me up!" Metzger blew his top, because he considered this a serious matter and here Duke was being only concerned with getting a chick for the night! Metzger broke away from Duke's Klan right after that, and took the members of California, and formed the California Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Riding on the waves of his new found popularity, Metzger decided to run for U.S. Congress. He entered the state primary and ran as a Democrat. Metzger won with 55,000 votes and became the Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress. This shocked the nation that the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan actually was the Democratic nominee. The Democratic Party renounced Metzger and endorsed the Republican incumbent.

As a result, Metzger was defeated in the general election. Metzger continued to organize Klan events and demonstrations and garnered national publicity again as he led a Klan march in Oceanside, Ca., against the Communists, the Progressive Labor Party and I.N.C.A.R. The Communists vowed to attack and that they did, but, Metzger was waiting for them. Metzger had ordered the Klan to not wear the traditional white robe and hood, and had everyone dress in black t-shirts and helmets with face shields.

Armed with baseball bats and guard dogs, Metzger led the Klan on a counter attack against the anti-Klan demonstrators.

The anti-Klan forces were defeated and ran away from the Klan. Metzger's popularity soared, and after running for Congress, he entered
the race for U.S. Senate and received over 70,000 votes but was defeated again.

Around this time, a rival K.K.K. leader by the name of Elbert Claude "Bill" Wilkinson, Imperial Wizard of the Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, came to California and began to raid Metzger's membership. Wilkinson was formerly with David Duke's Klan, but he broke away from Duke and formed a rival Klan, taking over 3/4ths of Duke's members with him.

Wilkinson set up National Klan headquarters in Denham Springs, Louisiana, and even had the Mayor of Denham Springs cut the ribbon on the new national office building. Wilkinson began setting up offices in many major states, by raiding the rival Klan's memberships, and Tom Metzger's Klan was not spared.

Wilkinson was a very outspoken charismatic leader, and had a strong national base which Metzger did not have. A large portion of the members of Metzger's California K.K.K. opted to join Wilkinson. Metzger decided to resign from the Klan.

It would later be revealed that Wilkinson was a paid F.B.I. informant, and was funded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to start a rival Klan, so they could keep track of who were members. Wilkinson later talked people into committing illegal acts, and many members were jailed and sent to prison. When this all came out, Wilkinson resigned from the Klan, and entered the Federal Witness Protection Program, where he remains to this day, whereabouts unknown.

Metzger then decided to form a new organization, and called it the White American Political Association, or W.A.P.A. Metzger was following the agenda set forth at the Aryan Nations congress held annually in Hayden Lake, Idaho, under Pastor Richard Butler. In the early 1980's a group of revolutionaries met at the Aryan Nations congress and decided to declare a revolution against the government.

One of the plans was to create different organizations just like the Klan, but under names that would not have the negative connotations that the Klan and the Nazi Party has. The leader of this revolution was a man by the name of Robert J. Matthews. He initiated bank robberies, assassinations, declared war on the Federal Government, and counterfeited money in an effort to overthrow the government, and install an all-white homeland.

In 1984, Matthews and his gang robbed an armored car in Ukiah, Ca., and netted $3,000,000.00. In the robbery, Matthews dropped a gun, which was registered to Andrew Barnhill. The F.B.I. traced the gun, and then a nation wide manhunt ensued, with Matthews getting killed in a fiery shootout with Federal agents in Whidbey Island, Washington.

The Federal agents then captured Bruce Pierce, who was 2nd in command of this gang that they called "The Order", or "The Silent Brotherhood". In a signed, sworn statement to Federal agents, Pierce told the agents that the money from the robbery was distributed to various white supremacists leaders, among them Richard Butler, Bob Miles, and Tom Metzger.

Pierce said that they had given Metzger around $500,000.00. Metzger of course denied he had taken the money, but it was right about this time that Metzger bought thousands of dollars worth of TV equipment and took a local TV show that he hosted in the San Diego, Ca., area, called "Race and Reason" on the national circuit. Metzger's TV show was on in over 100 cities across the nation, via public access television.

Metzger helped many white supremacists across the United States set up 24 hour hotlines with recorded racist messages. He began to publish a large newspaper called White American Resistance. He then changed the name of his organization from White American Political Association, to White American Resistance.

Then he changed the name again, to White Aryan Resistance, and renamed his newspaper W.A.R. Over in the United kingdom, there was a racist skinhead band leader by the name of Ian Stewart, who formed a band called "Screwdriver". They put out an album that was sold in a lot of record stores across the U.K. as well as the U.S., and on the album cover, Stewart dedicated the album to Metzger.

Skinheads are known for never having any money, and for being lowlifes that live off of the system by stealing, committing robberies, dealing drugs, drawing welfare and food stamps, or just plain living off of mom and dad. It was strange that a bum like Stewart all of a sudden had the money to put out an album, and dedicated it to Metzger. So Metzger didn't take the money huh? Right, and Bill Clinton never cheated on Hillary either!

Metzger then got in touch with yours truly, Johnny Lee Clary in Oklahoma, and named me Heartland Director of W.A.R., and began a recruitment drive through the Heartland of the U.S.A. Metzger and I appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and then Metzger assigned me to appear on Morton Downey Jr. twice.

Aryan Fest 88, held in Oklahoma was organized in which hundreds of white supremacists from all over the U.S. came to Oklahoma to participate. Originally, W.A.R. was set up as a union to organize all the different white supremacists groups under one umbrella, where it was hoped that all would work together to promote Aryan supremacy.

*White Aryan Resistance Video and Radio Streams

One thing about hate groups is that whenever something is founded on hate, that hatred of others spills over to their fellow comrades when there is no one else around for them to hate. Unity among the ranks is a thing of the past. Several white supremacist leaders and members were standing trial in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1988 on federal charges of Seditious Conspiracy to overthrow the United States Government.

Metzger was not indicted, although news reports were circulating over the A.P. that we were. Thom Robb, or Slobb as he is now referred to, tried to grandstand during the trial, by holding marches and asking the crowd for donations, which he often does as he is known as a "patriot for profit". Metzger went to Ft. Smith and stood in support of the men who were standing trial. Metzger and myself exposed Thom Slobb for what he was, and pointed out Slobb's true agenda.

This resulted in a large defect of his membership, and reduced Slobb's Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, (which he had illegally stolen from Don Black, David Duke's successor,) to down to almost nothing, with less then 100 members nationally. Metzger was now highly respected among the hate mongers. Metzger was now the most powerful Aryan leader in the U.S., since Robert Shelton had recently met his demise.

Robert Shelton was Imperial Wizard of the United Klans of America. The U.K.A. was organized in the early 1960's and was by far the largest Klan in America. No one could rival Shelton in strength and numbers, with the exception of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, led by Imperial Wizard Sam Bowers, of Mississippi.

The White Knights was the most militant and violent of all the Klans ever to exist. In the 80's, two U.K.A. members killed a black man and hung him from a tree in Alabama. Morris Dees, an attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama, filed a civil suit against the U.K.A. on behalf of the mother of the young black man that was murdered. The jury decided in against the U.K.A. and rendered a $7,000,000.00 judgment against them. The U.K.A. turned over their headquarters and property to the mother of the slain black man, and thus signified the end of the U.K.A. with Robert Shelton retiring.

Now Metzger began his downfall. It was time for Aryan Fest '89 and Metzger had changed big time. Metzger came to Oklahoma, and ordered the Confederate flag and the American flag removed from Aryan Fest, and put up a Nazi flag and a skull and crossbones flag in place of the flags he ordered removed. He then made it clear that he no longer believed in God, and that he would not tolerate Christianity in his W.A.R organization.

Metzger had began associating with a skinhead that was involved with LaVena LeVey, daughter of Anton LeVey, founder of the Church of Satan. Metzger began to listen to satanic music and partying with the skinheads. He told the Klan to take a hike and said he did not like Southerners, calling them rednecks. He said he could not stand cowboys or the Klan, and that the Skinheads were the only true warriors.

He then told the skinheads to get on welfare and food stamps and milk the government for all they could get. The Klan all walked out.

Grego then told all the skinheads in Dallas and Tulsa to start committing illegal acts, which resulted in the arrest of dozens of skinheads who were sent to prison. Grego abandoned his troops and disappeared from site. Metzger soon had more problems with another one of his leaders. He sent a skinhead to Portland , Oregon named David Mazzella, to organize skinheads there.

One night, several of them took a baseball bat and beat an Ethiopian black student to death. This resulted in prison sentences for Metzger's skinheads. Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center, went to Portland, and filed a civil lawsuit against Metzger and his son John, and against their organization, on behalf of the family of the Ethiopian student that was murdered by Metzger's skinheads.

Metzger, with his giant ego, chose to defend himself and to act as his own attorney. The result was the jury found in favor of the black student's family, and rendered a judgment against Metzger in the amount of $12,000,000.00.

Metzger was living on Sunbeam Drive in Fallbrook, California, at the time of the judgment against him. He had a very large house, where he lived with his wife Cathy, who was battling cancer. Metzger also had other troubles. He had been appealing a decision that was rendered against him several years before for charges of burning a cross, and he lost that appeal and was sentenced to the L.A. County Jail.

Metzger lost his house, his TV equipment, his computers, and his automobile, due to the Portland judgment. All of this proved too much for his wife Cathy, as she lost the fight against cancer and died. Metzger was released from jail early because of his wife dying. Metzger had lost everything, but his van, in which he was allowed to keep for his TV repair business. He began living out of his van, which he parked down by the river. He washed his clothes in the river, and strung a clothesline up to hang them on.

His meals mainly consisted of fish that he was able to catch and some cans of pork-n-beans. Metzger lived in the van down by the river, until he met a woman who allowed him to move in with her. This woman lets Metzger drive her car and feeds and supports him. Metzger hooked up a phone machine and started a hotline again, and his girlfriend has a computer that she lets him use where he now has a web site.

The once powerful Tom Metzger, who is near 70 years old, is now a poor old man, who has nothing left but what people give to him to help him out. He tries to fool people into thinking that he is still powerful, but is glory days ended long ago. He still has his TV repair business, but he barely gets by these days.

Thus ends the story of Tom Metzger, John Birch Society organizer, turned Christian Identity minister, turned Knights of the K.K.K. organizer, turned Grand Dragon of California Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, turned candidate for U.S. Congress, turned candidate for U.S. Senate, turned White American Political Association leader, turned White American Resistance leader, turned White Aryan Resistance leader, turned Public Access TV Show host, turned TV repairman, turned Jailbird, turned van living vagabond, turned live-in gigolo!

German Skinheads ...
Shock Mom and Dad: Become a Neo-Nazi

German young people, faced with liberal parents who are tolerant about sex, drugs and rock and roll, are increasingly rebelling by turning to right-wing extremism. Neo-nazi fashion, music and ideology have become an ever important part of German youth culture.

They believe that if foreigners left there would be more jobs and fewer unemployed Turks getting money from the government. There would be no Albanian drug dealers on the streets and no macho Islamic guys hitting on their girlfriends.

They would also no longer run the risk of being beaten up by large groups of "Russians" on a Friday night in front of their favorite bar. They say it is always "the Russians" who attack first.

*RIGHT WING EXTREMISM IN GERMANY

While media attention is focussed on German neo-Nazi skinheads, left-wing, anti-racist skinheads have been largely ignored so far. The lines between the two groups are blurring as far as fashion goes.

The movement's origins in the 1960s came out of England and were based largely on British nationalism and the influence of rude boys, West Indian immigrants known for the sharp dress and ska music. It started gaining ground in Germany during the 1980s, when Steph "shaved up." Back then, being a skinhead had more to do with "sharp" clothes and aggressive music than racist beliefs, she said.

"You listened to the music and had your fun," she said, naming the band Skrewdriver as an example. "But no one took the lyrics seriously. No one would go out and grab the first person they saw and beat him up because they didn't like his nose or because he looked different. It was just about the music."

Since then, the skinhead movement in Germany has split off into a variety of factions. The anti-racist skinheads include the Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice, or S.H.A.R.P. skins, and the Red or communist skins.

There are also racist and fascist groups, which are often the ones that find their way into television and radio stories.

Those who don't get any coverage include people like Daniel, a 28-year-old man who works for a software company and describes himself as left-wing.

"I'm interested in politics, mainly in local politics and also world-wide -- seeing how globalization is destroying other poor countries in the third world," said Daniel, who has been a skinhead for 13 years.

Russia has 55,000 Skinheads

In the mid-1980s, a rivalry arose between the Nazi skinheads of the West and the Trads (traditional skinheads who tried to keep the original purity of the movement and were indifferent to fascist and any other policy for that reason).

The Nazi skinheads also met with a rebuff from anti-fascist skinheads who can roughly be divided into three groups: ordinary anti-fascists (members of SHARP, or skinheads against racial prejudice), anti-fascists holding left views (including anarchists and communists who joined the association Red and Anarchist Skinheads (RASH), and even anti-fascists of the social democratic and liberal orientation from the Skinhead Liberation Organization (SLO).

In the West we find a colourful mixture of traditions and subcultures – Trads, Mods,
RASHES, SHARPS, punks, Nazi punks and Nazi skinheads.

In Russia we see almost only Nazi skinheads (99 percent). They are stupid and glum. This subculture is a subculture indeed.

Follow me through my journey of self-discovery as I uncover my past, which had defined my previous American life, and started me on a new road far removed from American shores.

At 16, I began to research the history of Germany after the war and the Dark Side of American History. I began to uncover secrets kept from the American people. What I uncovered gave me the incentive to relearn my German Immigrant roots. The results of my discoveries are contained here .....

When I started this work I knew most of my readers would be American. Americans just are not interesting anymore to Europeans.

The dollar keeps loosing to the stronger Euro, and many can now afford to live the party life. The middle class is strong. Union representation and work contracts are the norm. Credit cards are 4%-5%. Most have six weeks paid vacations, and universal health care, and numerous other social benefits. Thousands of beers and wines and gourmet foods, and ongoing festivals, and numerous holidays make most content.

Europeans know Americans. They know our politics, and millions have traveled the USA (90% have passports; *19% of Americans do.

American movies, and music, and culture have been part of the European scene for over 50 years; blues and jazz since the 1930's. Yet only 9% of Americans speak a foreign language. In Germany, and Holland, in Denmark and Sweden, in Austria and beyond, English is the second language.

The truth is that Americans since the 1970's have become less engaged with the world in general. While the world was turning into a global village, the average American was moving to the suburbs, and up to now had tuned the world out.

Because of America's pre-eminent position in world affairs, and its role in globalization, its foreign policy matters more than any other country. How can America shape a responsible foreign policy with such an uninformed electorate?

Are things different now?

As the new Europe had emerged, I started writing.

America is at war again, and the Republicans are taking from the poor and giving to the rich again. The military budget is now over *710 billion dollars a year. Medical benefits, school lunch programs, education, every American *entitlement is being stripped to the bone to pay for war.

Hundreds of thousands of Veterans no longer receive benefits - (reclassified), and 47 million Americans have no health care. The American *Savings Rate is now lower than during the Great Depression of 1929. One illness, one accident, one incident in court and most Americans will be history and wiped out.

Yes, we are pitied now and no longer held in high esteem.

The Military Industrial Complex Now

Big oil and the military industrial complex are profiting as never before. The difference between what U.S. citizens think their rulers are doing in the world and what these rulers actually are doing is one of the great propaganda achievements of history. In reality, the overriding goal of U.S. policy is to make the world ever safer and more profitable for the Fortune 500 Corporations and international finance capital.

Dulles-Bush Dynasty helped fund

Uncovered government documents in The National Archives and Library of Congress reveal that Prescott Bush, the grandfather of President George W. Bush, served as a business partner of and U.S. banking operative for the financial architect of the Nazi war machine from 1926 until 1942, when Congress took aggressive action against Bush and his "enemy national" partners.

Prescott Bush also led a group called the American Liberty League in a treasonous conspiracy with JP Morgan and the DuPont family. He tried to overthrow the U.S. government. Also involved in the Funding of the NAZI war machine were Eugenics champions Ford...and Brown Brothers Harrimen. The Dulles Bros. were international finance specialists for the powerful Wall Street law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell... Alan Dulles went on to become head of the CIA... and John Foster Dulles went on to become secretary of state!

Back To the Future

This generation of Americans are not mine of the 1960's. They are more easily manipulated and fooled then we were during the ten years of Vietnam, and now after 15 years of the Iraq War and an eventual war cost that will be 2 Trillion before its all over, they seem to be finally waking up after most of the Constitution has been trashed, and the Bill of Rights is just old paper.

The *doomsday clock is again set at five minutes to midnight, just as it was during the cold war.
It is the 1960's again, or worse.

I was six years old when we left Germany back in the late 1950's. I remember my father selling his worldly goods just to book passage on the Queen Elizabeth 1 back then, outbound from Hamburg, Germany to Ellis Island, New York *as millions of Germans had done for generations.

This is the beginning of this autobiography and I will just hit some main points for now ...

Hamburg, Germany

I remember sleeping on restaurant floors in Germany on our travel to Hamburg. I remember some stuffed ice bears in Hamburg, and I remember being sea sick on the two week sea voyage to the USA.

I remember my German shepherd Hasso that used to pull my sister and me on the sled in winter, and I remember him every breakfast morning going to the baker in the village with a bread basket hung around his neck and bringing back to the family table warm rolls for us to feast on.

I also remember the French officers that quartered in our 1920's home, since my part of Germany was under French occupation.

I remember one day when one of these Frenchies slapped me for not getting out of his way in time and Hasso attacked him and was about to be shot but my grandmother stood in the way.

But all these childhood memories remained buried as we reached New York and faced a new life in a new world. America was just too big, and life was too fast, and the people were all in such a hurry.

Back then you had to have a sponsor and a skilled trade that was in demand to immigrate to the USA. Your health was checked, as was your family background, and you had to have a job and references.

Nothing was left to chance, because the new country did not want freeloaders.

America wanted people to assimilate and become part not apart of the society. And then as now, Americans were not comfortable with a foreign language spoken in their midst.

However, my young eyes did not interpret the facts as they really were, for America is a land of immigrants and the facts are not as they seemed.

(The various ethnic and racial origins of the residents and immigrants remain important sources of personal identity. Of the 224 million people reporting their ancestry in the 1990 census, only 13 million, or 6 percent, identified themselves as Americans only. The rest chose one or more broad racial or linguistic groupings (such as African American or Hispanic) or national heritages (German, English, Irish, and Italian were most common) to define their origins.

Most Americans possess varied national, ethnic, and racial identities that reflect both the origins of their ancestors and their own affiliation to the United States.)

America was more successful in expanding and winning wars and conquering territory. America had never known defeat, and she was the big victor in the big war. Everything was red, white and blue in every city, in every town, in every state. It was 1957.

It was uncomfortable being a German kid not knowing English in an American school. Especially living in a small American town where most of my classmates were sons and daughters of farmers; the most conservative group of Americans.

Luckily I was in a catholic school and my teachers were *Franciscan nuns. In those days the classes were run by the iron fist of those nuns, and each hand had a stick in it, and if you did not behave as expected you got whacked.

I had a significant advantage over my parents, because being a child and growing up in America I never developed an accent and could speak American English like a native - a fact that helped me tremendously in my future.

On American television all you could see were German war movies and German hate films. That is really how I learned English.

died in American captivity after surrender (1945)

How three to six million
Germans died after VE Day

After the Reich discusses the murder of at least three million Germans, primarily women, children, and the elderly, after VE day. In actual fact, at least another 3 to 6 millions Germans perished in the East long before VE Day: they were murdered, raped, and ethnically cleansed from their ancestral homeland in what was central and eastern areas of Germany.

This Holocaust of millions of innocent Germans, of course, has received little of the attention of the the Jewish Holocaust. Most people are not even aware of the massive atrocities against the German people at the end of the Second World War.

The months that followed May 1945 brought no peace to the shattered skeleton of Hitler’s Reich, but suffering even worse than the destruction wrought by the war. After the atrocities that the Nazis had visited on Europe, some degree of justified vengeance by their victims was inevitable, but the appalling bestialities that MacDonogh documents so soberly went far beyond that.

*Eisenhower's Holocaust: His Slaughter of 1.7 Million Germans

While German soldiers from the British and Canadian zones were quickly regaining strength and were helping rebuild Europe, Germans taken by the Americans were dying by the hundreds of thousands - emaciated figures in diarrhea smeared clothing, huddling pitifully in watery holes with perhaps a scrap of cardboard over their heads and a rotten potato for supper. At times many of them were reduced to drinking urine and eating grass.

Did all this happen because of one supremely unprincipled and influential man named Eisenhower? Or was Ike in turn influenced by a small circle around him or by his superiors in Washington? Historians will be probing this question for decades to come.

Eisenhower, in his personal letters, did not merely hate the Nazi Regime, and the few who imposed its will down from the top, but HE HATED THE GERMAN PEOPLE AS A RACE. It was his personal intent to destroy as many of them as he could, and one way was to wipe out as many prisoners of war as possible.

German children released from detention camps in
1950; five years after the end of the war

Of course, that was illegal under International law, so he issued an order on March 10, 1945 and verified by his initials on a cable of that date, that German Prisoners of War be predesignated as "Disarmed Enemy Forces" called in these reports as DEF. He ordered that these Germans did not fall under the Geneva Rules, and were not to be fed or given any water or medical attention. The Swiss Red Cross was not to inspect the camps, for under the DEF classification, they had no such authority or jurisdiction.

Months after the war was officially over, Eisenhower's special German DEF camps were still in operation forcing the men into confinement, but denying that they were prisoners. As soon as the war was over, General George Patton simply turned his prisoners loose to fend for themselves and find their way home as best they could.

Eisenhower was furious, and issued a specific order to Patton, to turn these men over to the DEF camps. Knowing Patton as we do from history, we know that these orders were largely ignored, and it may well be that Patton's untimely and curious death may have been a result of what he knew about these wretched Eisenhower DEF camps.

The book, OTHER LOSSES, found its way into the hands of a Canadian news reporter, Peter Worthington, of the OTTAWA SUN. He did his own research through contacts he had in Canada, and reported in his column on September 12,1989 the following, in part:

"...it is hard to escape the conclusion that Dwight Eisenhower was a war criminal of epic proportions. His (DEF) policy killed more Germans in peace than were killed in the European Theater during war."

"For years we have blamed the 1.7 million missing German POW's on the Russians. Until now, no one dug too deeply ... Witnesses and survivors have been interviewed by the author; one Allied officer compared the American camps to Buchenwald."

It is known, that the Allies had sufficient stockpiles of food and medicine to care for these German soldiers. This was deliberately and intentionally denied them. Many men died of gangrene from frostbite due to deliberate exposure. Local German people who offered these men food, were denied. General Patton's Third Army was the only command in the European Theater to release significant numbers of Germans.

Others, such as Omar Bradley and General J.C.H. Lee, Commander of Com Z, tried, and ordered the release of prisoners within a week of the war's end. However, a SHAEF Order, signed by Eisenhower, countermanded them on May 15th.

The Air War

No war in U.S. history claimed more civilian lives than the war against Germany. The death toll from both atomic bombs used against Japan does not equal the death toll from the fire and phosphorous bombs used against Germany. (These bombs created a firestorm that was so intense, German civilians were baked alive in their basement bomb shelters.) ...

The German civilians who were burned alive in our bombing raids were no more likely to be Nazis than the Afghani civilians who've been hit by U.S. missiles are likely to be Taliban sympathizers.

In our bombing of Germany, heavily populated civilian districts were intentionally targeted. The idea was that by targeting the civilian population, we would disrupt Germany's economy, destroy the morale of its citizens and create chaos by rendering millions of people homeless.

Low-income areas were especially targeted for destruction because the population was denser and the buildings closer together. In February 1942, Allied bombers were specifically instructed to concentrate on built-up residential areas instead of targets such as dockyards and factories.

Hamburg on July 27, 1943--when 739 Allied bombers killed 50,000 people mostly women, children and elderly people. High Capacity bombs were used and accuracy was not important - these bombs were designed for blowing the tiles off the roofs of buildings so that the smaller 4 lb (1.8 kg) incendiary bombs could reach the building interiors.

According to historian Sven Lindquist, author of A History of Bombing, “The British air attacks on Hamburg killed more people than all German air attacks against English cities put together.”

It was a brutal way to win a war - and it worked like a charm. By the war's end, more than 2.3 million German civilians were dead, about one-third of them killed in air raids (60,000 of these air raid victims were not even Germans; they were foreign laborers, including Jews).

American Attitude Towards Rescuing Jews

The attitude of the U.S. government toward rescuing European Jews was best summed up by R. Borden Reams of the State Department’s Division of European Affairs in May 1943. “While in theory, any approach to the German government would have met with blank refusal, there is always the danger that the German government might turn over to the United States and to Great Britain a large number of Jewish refugees,” Reams said. “In the event of our admission of inability to take care of these people, the onus for continued persecution would have been largely transferred from the German government to [the Allies.]”

This reflected the anti-Semitism widespread within the U.S. and British governments

American Refusal To Sign
"Laws of War" Treaties

The United States has been particularly reluctant to sign treaties addressing the "laws of war". It has refused to sign The Declaration on the Prohibition of the Use of Thermo-Nuclear Weapons (1961); The Resolution on the Non-Use of Force in International Relations and Permanent Ban on the Use of Nuclear Weapons (1972); The Resolution on the Definition of Aggression (1974); Protocols Additional to the 1949 Geneva Convention (1977); and the Declaration on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons(1989)

Equally disturbing was the U.S. refusal to sign the Convention on Rights of the Child, introduced into the United Nations General assembly on November 20, 1989 and subsequently ratified by 191 countries.

Since World War II the US has bombed twenty-three nations. Author William Blum notes: "It is sobering to reflect that in our era of instant world wide communications, the United States has, on many occasions, been able to mount a large or small scale military operation or undertake other equally blatant forms of intervention without the American public being aware of it until years later if ever."

Early Years

When I was born, Germany had been divided into four occupation zones; the Soviets held the eastern part, the British the northwestern, the Americans the southeast, and the French held the southwest corridor. The occupation would continue this way for about 50 years. I started life in the French occupied (blue) zone in the Southwest across from Switzerland.

At that time many of the French occupation troops were blacks from French Africa.

Most of my area was either heavily forested or had deep valleys and rolling farm land.

Going Cuckoo

Father and grandfather had a cuckoo clock shop in the basement, and in those early years after the war, making cuckoo clocks was the mainstay of the family, that allowed us to survive and build up a business. The entire family was involved.

Even today, original Black Forest German cuckoo clocks are not manufactured as a mass produced clock, but as hand-assembled masterpieces. To achieve the highest quality is the goal. Wood-carvings and clock cases are produced only in the Black Forest and thus are known around the world for their quality workmanship

First step – where everything starts – is the wood which is used for the clocks. Most of the cuckoo clocks are made of Linden Tree. Those trees with their heart-shaped leaves are quite common in Europe and their wood can be used very well for carvings. After the trees are cut down the wood is pilled up and needs years to rest. Then the chances that the wood will move are low.

The wood will be cut into appropriate pieces corresponding to the size of the clock. The basic pieces which are coming out of the sharper are checked carefully to avoid cracks or irregularities within the wood. Before the clock is assembled all pieces are finished in different working steps.

In the meantime the inner life of the cuckoo clocks will be assembled. The different movements and the fine mechanics which will give live to the cuckoo and the dancing figurines on the front side of the clock will be put together. This requires a lot of subtle intuition due to the small and fragile parts used.

The metal parts used within the clock are also done mostly by hand – for sure there is some support by machines but the work needs really a lot of experience.

American Foreign Aid Myths

I like most Americans, have always been a sucker for government propaganda. My research brought me to another example of one that the American people have swallowed for over 50 years. This strategy was and is still being used in the current Iraq adventure.

The Myth of the Marshall Plan
that Saved Western Europe

Here is the standard American Government propaganda ...

Summer 1947 Europe, still devastated by the war, had just survived one of the worst winters on record. Something had to be done, both for humanitarian reasons and also to stop the potential spread of communism westward. The United States offered up to $20 billion for relief, but only if the European nations could get together and draw up a rational plan on how they would use the aid.

The Marshall Plan benefited the American economy as well. The money would be used to buy goods from the United States, and they had to be shipped across the Atlantic on American merchant vessels. But it worked.

By 1953 the United States had pumped in $13 billion, and Europe was standing on its feet again. Moreover, the Plan included West Germany, which was thus reintegrated into the European community.

The Reality

As economist Tyler Cowen has noted, the countries that received the most Marshall Plan money (allies Britain, Sweden, and Greece) grew the slowest between 1947 and 1955, while those that received the least money (axis powers Germany, Austria, and Italy) grew the most. In terms of post-war prosperity, then, it eventually paid to be a political enemy of the U.S. instead of a "beneficiary" of international charity.

But the real upshot of the Marshall Plan was a political maneuver to loot American taxpayers to keep influential American corporations on the government dole. The Plan's legacy was the perpetual use of foreign aid for domestic political and economic purposes.

After the war ended, Harry Truman's popularity in the polls began to plummet, as did the prestige of government generally. The American people had made huge sacrifices to fight the war and now wanted curbs in government, which had been administering a centrally planned economy. Most of all, they wanted the foreign policy recommended by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson: trade with all, entanglements with none.

In the mainstream of thinking was Republican Senator Robert Taft, a hero of all free-market activists at the time. He demanded tax cuts, spending cuts, and an end to "constantly increasing interference with family life and with business by autocratic government bureaus and autocratic labor leaders." The Republican party swept midterm elections in 1946, taking back the Congress on a hard-core, anti-big government platform.

Truman had to do something big and he knew it. As Charles Mee reports, he needed "some large program that would let him recapture the initiative, something big enough to enable him to gather in all the traditional factions of the Democratic Party and also some middle-of-the-road Republicans, and at the same time, something that would hamper the Republican phalanx," and establish him as a world leader.

The issue was right before him: foreign aid, funneled through the corporate establishment and cloaked in the rhetoric of opposition to foreign (but not domestic) communism. Cynically, he would make good use of Russia, which only the day before had been our gallant ally in the war, and transform it into a monster that had to be destroyed. By stealing the Republican's anti-socialist rhetoric, Truman hoped to frazzle his opponents and make himself a hero on the world stage.

A little-known business group, founded in 1942 and called the Committee for Economic Development, was elevated into a think tank for a new international order--the economic counterpart to the Council on Foreign Relations. The Committee's founders were the heads of the top steel, automotive, and electric industries who had benefited from the New Deal's corporatist stateism. Its membership overlapped with the farther left National Planning Association, which was unabashedly national socialist in ideological orientation.

These groups understood that they owed their profit margins to government subsidies provided by the New Deal and wartime production subsidies. Faced with post-war peace, they feared a future in which they would be forced to compete on a free-market basis. Their personal and institutional security was at stake, so they got busy dreaming up strategies to sustain a profitable stateism in a peacetime economy.

Corporate economic interests, then, overlapped with Truman's political interests, and an unholy alliance between business and government was born. They would use Europe's miseries to line their own pockets in the name of "rebuilding" and providing "security" against trumped-up threats to American security.

Most of all, the aid was used for purchases at distorted prices by American tax dollars in the hands of European governments. The mad scramble for tax dollars was a disgrace to behold, creating a low point in U.S. business history. Time and again, Congress intervened to grant corporate America what it really wanted: restrictions that forced Marshall aid to go to purchases of American oil, aluminum, wood, textiles, and machines.

The aid was also used to directly subsidize particular firms in recipient countries, whether or not there were viable markets for their products. Instead, the firms received money because their continued existence would artificially support "full employment" policies. And since American labor union groups were intimately involved in choosing who got the money, the lion's share went to companies with closed union shops, paradoxically restricting the ability of labor markets to readjust to new economic realities.

All told, the Marshall Plan dumped $13 billion, or nearly $100 billion in today's dollars. It was enough to firmly entrench American companies in European markets, especially in Britain, France, and Germany. American-controlled companies dominated industries such as shoes, milk, cereals, machines, cars, canned goods, petroleum refinement, locks and keys, printing, tires, soaps, clocks, farm machinery, and much more.

A year after the Marshall Plan began sucking private capital out of the economy, the U.S. fell into recession, precisely the opposite of what its proponents predicted. Meanwhile, the aid did not help Europe. What reconstructed Europe was the post-Marshall freeing up of controlled prices, keeping inflation in check, and curbing union power that is, the free market

The actual legacy of the Marshall Plan was a vast expansion of government at home, the beginnings of the Cold War rhetoric that would sustain the welfare-warfare state for 40 years, a permanent global troop presence, and an entire business class on the take from Washington. It also created a belief on the part of the ruling elite in D.C. that it could trick the public into backing anything, including the idea that government and its connected interest groups should run the world at taxpayer expense.

Prison spending has increased five times as fast as education spending. Nearly 2 million voters are disenfranchised because they have felony records.

In 2001, nearly 6.6 million people were on probation, in jail or prison, or on parole at year end. That number represents 3.1% of all U.S. adult residents or one in every 32 adults.

America Behind Bars: the USA Prison State

The United States has more prisoners than any other country in the world: with approximately two million people behind bars, it holds 25 percent of the world’s prisoners, though it comprises only 5 percent of the world’s population. Imprisoning about 73 of every 1,000 people, the U.S. locks up a larger percentage of its population—six to 10 times more, in fact—than any other industrialized democracy.

According to a report by the Bureau of Justice (2000), the total number of men and women behind bars, on parole, and on probation has reached 6.3 million, more than three percent of the U.S. adult population.

Incarceration is not an equal opportunity punishment

On June 30, 2004, there were 2,131,180 people in U.S. prisons and jails. That's a rise of 2.3% during the 12 previous months. Federal prisons are growing almost 5 times faster than state prison populations.

As of June 30, 2004, the U.S. incarceration rate was 726 per 100,000 residents. But when you break down the statistics you see that incarceration is not an equal opportunity punishment.

U.S. incarceration rates by race, June 30, 2003:

* Latinos: 997 per 100,000
* Blacks: 2,526 per 100,000

Gender is an important "filter" on the who goes to prison or jail, June 30, 2004:

Look at just the males by race, and the incarceration rates become even more frightening, June 30, 2004:

* White males: 717 per 100,000
* Latino males: 1,717 per 100,000
* Black males: 4,919 per 100,000

If you look at males aged 25-29 and by race, you can see what is going on even clearer, June 30, 2004:

* For White males ages 25-29: 1,666 per 100,000.
* For Latino males ages 25-29: 3,606 per 100,000.
* For Black males ages 25-29: 12,603 per 100,000. (That's 12.6% of Black men in their late 20s.)

Or you can make some international comparisons:
South Africa under Apartheid was internationally condemned as a racist society.

What does it mean that the leader of the "free world" locks up its Black males at a rate 5.8 times higher than the most openly racist country in the world?

Correctional officials see danger in prison overcrowding. Others see opportunity. The nearly two million U.S. citizens behind bars the majority of them nonviolent offenders mean jobs for depressed regions and windfalls for profiteers.

The prison industrial complex (PIC) is a complicated system situated at the intersection of governmental and private interests that uses prisons as a solution to social, political, and economic problems. The PIC depends upon the oppressive systems of racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia. It includes human rights violations, the death penalty, industry and labor issues, policing, courts, media, community powerlessness, the imprisonment of political prisoners, and the elimination of dissent.

The latest statistics on the
American prison system

200,000+ children are in juvenile detention centers and jails.

2 Million Americans are currently incarcerated in our prison system ( that is approximately the size of the entire city of Soweto, South Africa)

1 out of every 75 men is currently incarcerated.

Sixty percent of all incarcerated for drug related crimes are first offenders.

We also have the highest prison population in the world.

And 100% of those incarcerated are also at risk of being tortured in violation of the Eighth Amendment to the United States constitution, and many have been and are still victims of a brutal prison system, it's tactics being implemented from Georgia, to California, to Abu Ghraib, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo.

The moral degradation and torture that occurred at Abu Ghraib prison and others in this "war on terror" (led by many who were and are also affiliated with the American prison system) at the hands of the U.S. military and the Pentagon is not new to the American prison system, nor should it be a shock to those who have researched this topic. This inhumane and unconstitutional treatment has been normal practice in the American prison system for decades.

Our own Congress as recently as 1996, passed a bill (Prison Litigation Reform Act) in order to ensure that in most cases, those abused by this system do not receive compensation for their abuse. It would also now appear that by voting for Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General and allowing Donald Rumsfeld to retain his position as Secretary of Defense, even after proof emerged that this procedure was OKed from the highest levels of our government, that our leaders also believe in violating the United States constitution, and in the torture and humiliation tactics employed in our own prisons and around the world that does nothing to further justice. This should not stand with Americans of conscience and morals.

This petition is then hereby written in order to protest against the unconstitutional, unAmerican, and inhumane treatment of those in our prison system, and to call for an investigation of such tactics by the Governors of all states, and to also recommend a revision of existing Federal sentencing standards in regards to first time drug use offenders. These procedures overcrowd our prisons, thus putting a tremendous strain on our budgets and robbing the lives of many of our young people who are ruined forever because of one mistake.

We are also protesting the unprofessional and deadly tactics implemented by Prison Health Systems, a company whose presence now in 36 states concerns us, based on a NY Times expose' dated, February 27, 2005. We then request a thorough investigation into their practices by non-partisan state commissions in all states this company operates in, and for proper compensation to be made to the families of all of those who have lost loved ones in their care. We also applaud New York state for investigating these allegations, and call on all other states where this company operates to do the same.

Congress must also seriously consider legislation to repeal or at the very least fine tune the Prison Litigation Reform Act, in order to truly and fairly represent those prisoners who are unjustly and unconstitutionally attacked and tortured in regards to compensation, and to provide for proper medical attention to patients in our prisons, especially children and the mentally retarded who are too often silent victims.

We as American citizens can no longer sit by and watch while our fellow citizens are tortured and abused in a system based on political kickbacks and greed and say we have a soul. The time for action is now, and by signing this petition you tell all of those in Congress and our states who condone such behavior over the wellbeing of all of our citizens by looking the other way, that we will no longer tolerate torture in America.

The absolute lack of professionalism and ethics that have led to this country's prisons being no better in many instances than those in third world countries must be addressed. This also isn't about defending criminals, this is about defending justice, dignity, and our children. It is unconscienable that this is being allowed to take place in our country. Profit should not come before people, as we are literally privitizing them to death. This goes against all we stand for as Americans in a country where the current leaders now talk about "compassion," but know absolutely nothing about it in practice. We demand change. We demand justice. We demand that our constitution be respected, and that those who violate it be made accountable for their actions.
